Vegan Wrap Ideas

When it comes to vegan wrap ideas, versatility is key. Whether you’re filling them with hearty protein, crisp veggies, or a mix of both, wraps are a great option for easy vegan meals that you can take on the go or enjoy at home. This TVP Cheeseburger Wrap is a fun twist on the classic cheeseburger, but if you're looking to mix things up, try experimenting with different fillings like grilled veggies, falafel, or BBQ chickpeas.

What is TVP?

TVP, or Textured Vegetable Protein, is a versatile and high-protein ingredient made from soy flour. It has a meaty texture that works brilliantly in vegan recipes. Plus, it’s budget-friendly, easy to store, and quick to prepare! TVP easily absorbs flavours, making it perfect for dishes like these wraps.

If you’re looking for ways to use TVP, I’ve got you covered with some of my favourite TVP-based recipes:

FAQ for Vegan Cheeseburger Wraps

1. Can I make these wraps gluten-free?

Absolutely! Simply choose a gluten-free tortilla wrap and ensure your soy sauce is gluten-free. Most TVP brands are naturally gluten-free, but always double-check the packaging.

2. What other toppings can I use?

Feel free to mix and match your favourite toppings! Think shredded lettuce, grilled onions, vegan mayo, or even avocado slices for extra creaminess. Get creative with your wraps to make them your own.

3. What’s the best way to store leftovers?

If you have any leftover TVP mixture, store it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat it before assembling your wrap, or use it as a filling in other dishes like tacos or stuffed peppers.

4. Can I freeze these wraps?

The TVP mixture itself freezes well. However, for the best texture, it’s recommended to prepare the wraps fresh. You can freeze the filling separately in a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months.

Whether you’re new to plant-based eating or a seasoned pro, these Vegan TVP Cheeseburger Wraps are a quick, satisfying, and protein-packed option. Don’t be afraid to experiment with fillings and find your perfect vegan wrap combination. Let me know if you try this recipe—I’d love to hear what you think!

INGREDIENTS

Vegan TVP Cheeseburger Wraps

  • 1 cup textured vegetable protein

  • 1 cup boiling water

  • 1 brown onion, diced

  • 4 garlic cloves, minced

  • 1/4 cup tomato sauce

  • 2 tbsp soy sauce

  • 1 tbsp dijon mustard

  • 1 tbsp liquid smoke

  • Tortilla wraps

  • Handful of vegan cheese

  • Tomato slices

  • Sliced pickles

METHOD

  • Combine the textured vegetable protein with boiling water in a heatproof bowl. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it reaches a minced texture.

  • In a fry pan over medium heat, add a bit of olive oil and diced onion. Cook for 1-2 minutes until the onions are golden, stirring occasionally. Lower the heat, add the minced garlic, and stir until fragrant.

  • Add the rehydrated TVP to the pan and mix well.

  • Stir in the tomato sauce, soy sauce, dijon mustard, and liquid smoke. Let the mixture cook for 3-5 minutes to thicken slightly and allow the flavours to meld.

  • Lay out a tortilla wrap. On the bottom third, sprinkle vegan cheese, add a few tomato slices, and place sliced pickles on top.

  • Spoon a quarter of the TVP mixture over the veggies.

  • Fold the sides inward, then fold the bottom of the wrap up, tucking in the filling as you go. Continue folding until it’s securely wrapped.

  • Place the wrap on a fry pan or sandwich press to toast the outside and make it slightly crispy.

  • Pair it with your favourite dipping sauce—BBQ, mayo, or classic tomato sauce—and enjoy!
