BEGA enters vegan cheese market with NEW Bega Plant Based Cheese

The iconic dairy based company, BEGA has just dropped a bit of a bomb shell in Australia, with the release of their brand new Bega Plant Based cheese range.

The range of plant based cheese from Bega is now available in Coles Supermarkets for $8.50 for 200g of cheddar styled slices and grated cheese - this is vastly more expensive to their dairy-based alternatives that are only $5.60 per 200g.

The company that previously owned plant based milk company Vitasoy (Vitasoy was sold to Hong Kong based Vita International at the start of 2023), recently revealed that they were interested in re-entering the plant based market, but no one was expecting them to release Bega Plant Based cheese options for their consumers.

It’s a bold move from the dairy cheese maker, which saw record profit loses in the previous financial year.

Australia is the world’s third fastest growing market for plant based foods, with more Australian’s looking for plant based alternatives to their favourite foods. As of the end of 2022, 2.5 million Australians call themselves either vegetarian or vegan, with 6% of population calling themselves vegan - a 4% growth on the previous year.

The new Bega Plant Based cheese options are available in two varieties, with both of them trying to replicate dairy based cheddar cheese. Interestingly, the new Plant Based Bega options are made from fava beans, and not the typical soy or coconut oil ingredients.

The Bega Plant Based cheese options are now available at Coles supermarkets for $8.50 for 200g packets of:

  • Bega Plant Based Cheddar Cheese Style Slices

  • Bega Plant Based Cheddar Cheese Style Shred
