Poached Pear Porridge - Vegan Breakfast Ideas

Here’s a super cosy breakfast idea that is perfect for those colder Autumn or Winter mornings - Vegan Poached Pear Porridge.

This poached pear porridge recipe features some deliciously tasty caramelised pears and some creamy oats.

Porridge and oatmeal is pretty much the same thing, and making porridge is simply done by adding milk or water to your oats whilst cooking them. By doing this for long enough (anywhere from 5-15 mins), you turn your simple oats into a warming and creamy vegan breakfast idea.

You can make this poached pear porridge by simply purchasing some convenient porridge sachets from the supermarket, but buying a big bag of oats at the supermarket is also very cheap.

With this poached pear porridge recipe we will be cooking our oats first by adding milk/water in a saucepan until nice and creamy.

Meanwhile, you will be preparing your pears by peeling and coring them. Once this has been done, we will heat up another saucepan and add in your sliced up pear with some brown sugar, cinnamon and lemon juice to make an incredibly flavoursome coating for your pears.

This poached pear porridge recipe can be whipped up in less than 15 minutes, and you go back to sitting on the couch wrapped in your blanket!

INGREDIENTS

Poached Pear Porridge (vegan breakfast ideas)

  • 3/4 cup oats

  • 1 1/2 cups of soy milk or water

  • 1 tbsp vegan butter

  • 2 tbsp brown sugar

  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

  • 2 pears, peel, core and slice

METHOD

◾ In a small saucepan on low to medium heat, add oats and milk or water. Initial mix to combine and then cover, cooking for anywhere from 5-15 minutes - the longer you cook, the creamier your oats.

◾ Meanwhile, in another saucepan on a low heat, add your vegan butter, brown sugar, cinnamon and lemon juice and mix to combine. Add in your sliced pear and cover your saucepan. Allow pears to cook for roughly 10 minutes or until pear begins to soften.

◾Place your creamy porridge into a bowl and place caramelised poached pears over the top.
